BARCELONA are not missing out on transfer deadline day action after landing Brazilian right-back Emerson.

But the 20-year-old, who signed from Atletico Mineiro, will join league rivals Real Betis until the end of the season on a loan deal.

The 20-year-old has been likened to Dani Alves who went onto win 13 major trophies at the Nou Camp.

The deal is worth £10.5million and the defender has penned a five-year deal.

Emerson is renowned for his attacking ability and often exploits space on the right flank.

Barca believe his style of play and eagerness to start attacks from the back will see him eventually slot into the starting XI.

They will also get to pay close attention to his progress while he spends the rest of the campaign at Real Betis.

They have been in the market for a long-term replacement for Alves after he left for Juventus in 2016.

Barca landed Nelson Semedo from Benfica but hasn’t set the world alight since his switch.

Instead Sergi Roberto has been filling the void at right-back despite his natural role as a central midfielder.

Emerson has yet to represent his national side at a senior level but is currently playing at the South American under-20 Championship in Chile.

Barca are also set to complete the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo on a permanent deal after agreeing a deal with Toulouse six months ahead of schedule.
