ENGLAND have begun their bid to win a first EVER cricket World Cup as they take on New Zealand at Lord’s.

The country has turned cricket crazy as Eoin Morgan’s men attempt to make history – and fans in fancy dress poured into London’s iconic home of cricket this morning despite a damp start to proceedings.

The Kiwis won the toss and were first to bat after drizzle delayed the start by 15 minutes to 10.45am.

They lost their first wicket with 29 runs on the board after starting at a brisk pace.

The Black Caps were looking very comfortable indeed when England’s Liam Plunkett took a second wicket, dismissing skipper Kane Williamson lbw for 30 and leaving the Kiwis at 103-2.

Earlier on a pitch invader failed to halt the final as she attempted to draw attention to her son’s porn website.

Wearing a black swimsuit, YouTube prankster Vitaly Zdorovetskiy’s mum dashed out of the stands, but was tackled by security before she could run onto the pitch at Lord’s.

Millions are expected to tune in today to England’s first final in 27 years which is free-to-air after Sky Sports struck a deal with Channel 4 and More 4.

Trafalgar Square was a sea of red and white as thousands of fans watched on the big screen in Central London.

While At Lord’s, departing PM Theresa May, former Prime Minister John Major and Piers Morgan were among the politicians and celebs to be soaking up the atmosphere.

New Zealand are fielding the same team who beat India in the first semi-final in Manchester.

England also retained the same XI who had thumped Australia in the second semi-final with opener Jonny Bairstow overcoming a thigh niggle.

Eoin Morgan said he was not too disappointed at having lost the toss.

“It was a bit of a 50-50 call and with the overhead conditions I might have leaned towards bowling first,” he said.

“Whichever team plays well will lift the trophy.”

“I’m extremely proud and everyone in the change room is. We want to win and throughout the tournament we have played tough games and the semi-final epitomised that.”

The pitch sported a hint of green which, both captains agreed on Saturday, would please the seam bowlers.

New Zealand defended a low total against India in the first semi-final while England proved they were fine either way completing an easy chase against Australia in the other.
