DEAR DEIDRE: DESPITE being apart for six months, I’m still in love with my ex. She wants to be with me but says she can’t leave the new man in her life as he wouldn’t survive.
Being with her wasn’t easy. We lived three hours apart, so we only had limited time together. She worried that I wasn’t faithful to her. I’m 27 and she’s 25.
In the end she dumped me, but then kept flirting and saying she missed me like mad. I told her that she had to make up her mind.
She left him for me but he then tried to take his own life, so she can’t leave him now. He’s 34. I’m so angry he’s trapped her like this.

DEIDRE SAYS: Tell her that it would be better for him if she helped him find expert support, rather than staying just to keep him from harming himself. That can’t work long-term.
He can find help for depression through his GP and support through CALM – the Campaign Against Living Miserably (thecalmzone.net, 0800 585858).
Although she says she’s trapped, she’s actually making a choice and she’s not choosing you.
It’s time to move on and find somebody new.
