Can you claim Carer’s Allowance on behalf of others?

Only the person who is caring for another person for at least 35 hours per week is eligible for Carer’s Allowance.

You also cannot claim Carer’s Allowance if someone is caring for the same person as you and is already claiming Carer’s Allowance.

You also do not receive extra payments if you care for more than one person.

Carer’s Allowance can affect other benefits you receive, but also the benefits of the person you care for.

The Government website explains when you claim for Carer’s Allowance, the person being cared for will no longer get the severe disability premium paid with their benefits, or an extra amount of severe disability paid with Pension Credit.
