SAM RYDER can scarcely stop smiling in the aftermath of the weekend’s Eurovision Song Contest, during which he confounded all expectations to take second place for the UK.
Last year might have resulted in nul points for the UK, but the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest was a very different story indeed, with Sam sailing to the runners up spot with a mammoth 283 pont increase.
Sam Ryder beat off competition from favourites Spain, featuring singer Chanel flashing her pert derriere in an energetic routine, and Sweden, coming second only to the heroes of Ukraine.
The Maldon star was in high spirits as he jetted into Heathrow Airport from Milan following the show in Turin.
He wore a pink Kalush Orchestra hat as he was photographed after touchdown, in a bid to show support for the war torn country.
Meanwhile, Sam also clutched a Union Jack flag to show patriotism for the UK, along with a champagne bottle shaped balloon.
He was greeted by adoring fans, who were some of the eight million Brits who tuned in on Saturday night to watch the action.
Sam exclaimed that it was great to “feel that joy and love”, pausing to snap selfies with the crowd before heading home.
The star revealed he was planning to celebrate in style, by tucking into “a curry with my family”.
